Andrea Breinbauer (Chile, 1990) holds a Bachelor's Degree in Art awarded by the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. In 2018, she received a scholarship awarded by the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) to pursue Theater Design studies at the Weißensee Kunsthochschule University in Berlin, city where she currently lives and works.
Her work is characterized by the use of painting to reflect on certain aspects that the Western tradition, from the Renaissance to the advent of the avant-garde movements, has claimed as its own. Thus, through the creation of little sceneries and pictorial installations, Andrea delves into issues such as simulacra, the narrative capabilities of painting, the two-dimensionality of the surface, and the objectuality of the support, abandoning and overcoming the use of the canvas (tableau). With well thought-out brushstrokes, which place her work at the edge of hyperrealism, the artist develops narratives that –whether they are inspired by literature, popular culture, or her own biography– they operate as a starting point for creating new stories through the superposition of images coming from various semantic fields.

Andrea Breinbauer (Chile, 1990) es licenciada en Artes por la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. En 2018 ganó una beca otorgada por la Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) para continuar estudios de Diseño Teatral en la Universidad Weißensee Kunsthochschule de Berlín, ciudad en la que actualmente reside y trabaja.
Su obra se caracteriza por el uso de la pintura, para reflexionar sobre algunos aspectos que la tradición occidental, desde el Renacimiento hasta el advenimiento de las Vanguardias, le han asignado como propios. De este modo, mediante la creación de pequeñas escenografías e instalaciones pictóricas, Andrea ahonda en cuestiones como el simulacro, la capacidad narrativa de la pintura, la bidimensionalidad de la superficie y la objetualidad del soporte, abandonando y superando el uso de la tela (tableau). Con una pincelada cuidada, que instala a su trabajo en los márgenes del hiperrealismo, la artista articula narraciones que, ya sea que encuentren su argumento en la literatura, la cultura popular o en su propia biografía, le sirven de punto de partida para crear nuevas historias mediante la superposición de imágenes provenientes de diversos campos semánticos.
